What to watch?
This is admittedly completely off topic. If you want to delete it, go ahead.

I'm gonna be heading up my school's anime club this year, and I'd really like some suggestions on newer fansubs for us to watch that have -not- been liscenced. Because fucking hell, everything I wanted to show is liscenced. It's really sad. Damn those dubbers. Right now I'm just downloading random episode 1s off AnimeSuki. We like live action/drama as well. If anyone's been watching something lately and can give me a short synopsis, I'll try to find torrents and stuff for the club.

Have a good day and thank you for supporting Quest Anime ;D

Why not Bleach? It's starting soon, and it won't be liscensed for a while. It also has that Jump brand of quality.

Some companies are good about letting you show their stuff, if you write in and ask them. And I'm glad we picked some licensed titles to show in our anime club this semester, because most of the fansubs we've shown so far have been awful.

I can suggest that you do not show Bo-bobo, unless your club is full of masochists. It's awful. :D

And Raimuiro Senkitan was pretty meh. I was only around for one of the four episodes we showed (officers usually meet during showings), but it looked like nothing more than a lot of fanservice.

Good fansubs...well, these are older, so I don't know if you've shown them in past years or anything (we tend to show a mix of old and new stuff in our club), but I suggest Hunter x Hunter, Hikaru no Go, and Violinist of Hameln.

How bout Naruto? Those are really popular anime. Beside it haven't lisenced. Spread the naruto around! XD

Some new ones right now that I have heard good reviews from my friends:
Samurai Champloo, Monster, Paranoia Agent, Samurai 7.
There's a Ragnarok anime series for anyone who plays the MMORPG.

For some cheesy live action, there's always PGSM = pretty guardian sailormoon

Some oldies: Hunter X Hunter, Prince of Tennis uhm.. I can't think of anything else at the top of my head.

I second Samurai Champloo. I believe it's by the same people/person who made Cowboy Bebop.
リミックス・サクラremix_sakura on September 28th, 2004 01:09 pm (UTC)
Champloo was one I definitely wanted, but it was liscenced last month ;_; Samurai 7 and Paranoia Agent are gone as well I believe.

Really? It's been licensed? I hadn't heard that. *goes looking* According to AnimeSuki it was licensed back in 2003 by Geneon, with an original release date of January 2004, but is now currently set for January 2005, put out by Pioneer/Geneon. Well, that would explain why I hadn't heard about it...

For those who may not know about it, AnimeSuki's complete license list: http://v2.animesuki.com/licensed.php?browse=recent

Samurai 7 is indeed gone.
By none other than Funimation >_>

I second Naruto. And unless it's been licensed, GTO Live Action is pretty good. And maybe Sailor Moon live action just for kicks. xP

haha, we've seen all three of those last year XD

I'm halfway through Narutaru, which I don't think has been licensed. Don't let the fluffy kid-ish first episode fool you, this show rapidly turns into utter crack. The good kind of crack.

crack is good. I will look for that ^_^

Live action, you've got any sentai series (i.e. Power Rangers) and the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon series isn't too bad.

-I recently found fansubs of the first seasons of Digimon (Adventure to Frontier) and since no one holds the rights to the 4 seasons you can fansub it now...I guess o_o;. Relive the good 'ol Digimon luv (unedited) =D

-Gundam Seed Destiny? Dunno (Comes out Oct 6th but I think you can watch it without having seen Gundam Seed)

-Yu-Gi-Oh! GENEX (Generation Next. Hohoho...). Apparently its not too bad, hasn't started yet, Four-you-know-who-who-should-be-shot hasn't grabbed it and its got totally new characters with just random mentions of the DM gang (Anzu[Tea], Yuugi, Jonouchi[Joey] and Honda [Tristan]) but yeah Duel Monsters schools that all rival each other. Hai. *honestly has no general idea what this new series will be about* And I have not seen any fansub groups come up yet.

-BLEACH? I haven't read the manga, yet but the anime is coming out soon so there's one.

-Ragnarök the Animation? (Its not bad but I was laughing when they said the "Province of Alberta" because in Canada, we HAVE a province called "Alberta" XDDD;;;.)

-DearS (I've been hearing its a Chobits rip but that its good o_o)

-Soukyuu no Fafner. Seen one episode. Looks like Eva in a way. Many shocking stuffs. (Like a male character whom you think 10000000% is a girl and when you hear him speak its like *manly voice* viewer: 'omgwtfbbqAAAH')

-Kerokero Gunsou (Sergeant Kerokero/Frog). It looks funny from what I've seen in screenshots plus you somewhat get a bit of an FMA-flash since the "bad guys" all are ranked military-wise. XD;

-I know this is dubbed (and I personally liked the dub) but, Slayers, Slayers NEXT, Slayers TRY and the Slayers OVAs (mind the downside of the OVAs is that there's no Gourry x_x;.). TRY, I never saw but one clip has me laughing myself to tears. xD;

That's all I can suggest off the top of my head for the moment ^^;

O_O Could you send me the link for the Digimon fansubs? I've been looking forever with no luck.

Would you like me to IM you the link? (MSN? I have AIM if that works for you ^^)

Sure. My name's BishounenStalker on AIM. I'll leave it on all day while I'm at classes and work, so if I don't reply to you when you send it, that's why. Thanks a lot.

It is a bit hard to find non-licensed series that are good these days, isn't it? I've liked what I've seen of Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, and Madlax, but all of them got licensed recently (except Champloo, which got licensed a while back). @_@;; They're picking 'em up fast these days.

Let's see. In terms of recommendations... Naruto (though I think you mentioned you watched it already.. are you keeping up with it in your club or...?). Hikaru no Go I *HIGHLY* recommend. The first 10 or so episodes may be a little hard to get into, but. Wow. You get sucked in after that, and it is one of my more favorite shows to this day. Also, I haven't seen much of it, but Prince of Tennis was pretty interesting. ^^

And I'd definitely recommend checking out the Bleach anime (as someone above mentioned) -- I've read some of the manga and it's fantastic. Aishteruze Baby is pretty cute (I saw the first episode recently at an anime screening). Hm. Other than that, I'm out of recommendations. @_@

While I'm not a big Macross fan, I saw the first episode of Macross Zero, and it was... wow. Pretty. So you might want to consider that, too. ^^;
Nickdragonklaw82 on September 29th, 2004 10:19 am (UTC)
Ah what a coincedence. I too am in charge of an anime club. Yay authority! Anyway, I would suggest Melody of Oblivion. It's not liscensed (yet) and pretty damn good to boot. And of course, I have to reiterate all the above votes for Naruto. Damn I love that show. Good luck with your club ! ^_^
